I pride myself on organising my life quite well and anything to do with travel it goes like clockwork but on this occasion everything that could go wrong did go wrong, I was looking forward to my Frome Christian men’s group’s curry evening.
I set off on a moonlit evening to travel the ten miles or so. My dislike or driving at night increases because I find the halogen lights used by cars increasingly more intrusive and for a couple of seconds I cannot see what is ahead. this is enough time for me to strike the curb or indeed the side of another car. At the risk got annoying other motorists, which I undoubtedly did, I did actually keep to the speed limit at all times.
Although I had been told that the venue had changed from Saint John’s Church to Holy Trinity Church for some reason I assume that I knew whether the new church was. First of all I arrived at the normal venue to see the car park full of a strange cars that I haven’t seen before so after realising that I was definitely in the wrong place I set off to what I thought was the new venue.
I picked the wrong church. Second attempt: In spite of using my sat nav I could not visualize the church venue and I couldn’t find it. Frome is the wrong place to drive around at night with few people to ask plus churches tend not to be illuminated at night.
Parking in Frome is a nightmare at best of times but trying to drive and figure out where you’re supposed to be going in the dark was on this occasion for some reason too much.
I decided to abandon the search as it was already 20 minutes beyond the time that they should have started and I was probably going to miss out on the meal. I made one last attempt and for some reason felt completely disheartened. I finally drove off and stopped for consolation at the pub in Buckland Dinham.
Customers were being served, a process which took some time, and then the bar lady disappeared into another room. I felt I was definitely not supposed to be there so I went off home.
So why this hiatus? You just never know. Was I not supposed to go to this meeting? Had the meeting being cancelled perhaps. Unlikely. Was it seen by the powers above that I was going to have an accident when I left the meeting? Who knows.
I felt a naturally disappointed but not empty and I did not feel I had missed out on anything of great significance but my brain ‘switch off’ was a mystery. I will leave it at that for now.
PS I wrote to the secretary detailing my woes and he wrote back saying that because of a double booking they had moved to the adjacent hall so I had got the right place, but as I didn’t recognise any of the faces I left. I asked him if it was too much trouble to put a note on the door. I would have thought that to be elementary common sense but evidently not.

The incident could be due to the Full Moons energies…but sometimes we just have to say, all’s well that ends well.!!
