Do we need holiday insurance in the UK +What is an existential crisis?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Our Little holiday has come to an end and I could have easily stayed for another few days but on the other hand it is necessary for Francoise to seek medical advice for her very swollen left knee.

I have always considered travel insurance unnecessary particularly when visiting within the United Kingdom but now I’m not so sure. The RAC attend to you when you’re cars broken down but what about if you have broken down? What if you have to go to the nearest hospital? How would any dependents get home?  The price of travel being what it is, you could rack up hundreds or even thousands of pounds without blinking.

The problem with accidents and medical emergencies is that they don’t give any notice and you say to yourself that these things only happen to other people. Well, they can happen to anyone even on a nice sunny day when everything is fine. You can slip and fall as one man on our tour did shortly after his arrival at our holiday destination and he had to be taken to hospital.

Next week I’m going to look into comprehensive insurance within the UK for us both.   I would guess it’s a couple of hundred pounds but certainly worth it for peace of mind.  The NHS does not cover incidental costs only the cost of treatment. Watch this space.

An excellent article from Nexus magazine which says it better than I could myself. I feel it is for all of us hence the unusual decision to reprint the article (in part)

What is an existential crisis? Nine ways to survive one

The hardest thing about going through an existential crisis is that you often feel depressed and alienated.   Nothing makes sense anymore, and everything feels meaningless – including all of your old accomplishments, desires, professional attachments, relationships, and goals.  You want to find your real purpose in life. You want to know why the f*ck we’re all here in the first place, but you don’t know where to start.  If you can relate to these feelings, my heart goes out to you. I’ve been there before and it’s a dark place. Worst of all, it can sometimes last for years (like mine did).

As someone who has been through this, I’m not here to bullshit you.

I’m not promising that what I’ll share will help it all become magically better. But I do hope you find a little bit of solace.
