We were staying five nights in a budget hotel, one of three Travelodges in Cardiff and this one was in Cardiff Bay. Some major changes are going to take place in the next two to five years and as you can see below there is some wonderful building going on, on what used to be a car park and a wood. I cannot record a less romantic view from the window of our room. I suppose it qualifies as a city view but definitely not a sea view. There was a generator running at night about 200 meters away which produced quite a throbbing noise but we kept the window closed and didn’t think anything more of it.
The idea of staying centrally maybe very attractive but parking is pretty much non-existent and less your prepared to pay heavily – by that I mean £24 a day – to put your car in one of the many underground car parks or parking blocks which is not necessarily convenient for the hotel. I would recommend arrival by train or coach. Transport within Cardiff is very good and quick but don’t expect late night bus services
As for breakfast, it is very easy to make a pig of your self. We had a choice of porridge, Wheatabix, various cereals, fresh fruit, croissants, plus the usual breakfast items and also some yogurt. I found that I was overeating and did not have enough room for a lunch so this morning we had a cut down version when I had very little hot food
We were not sure what the weather was going to do. As it happened if it was quite a pleasant day with not much of a breeze and intermittent sunshine so we lingered in bed in the morning and then we went to the city centre for the final day and decided to walk towards a cafe that I’ve been recommended to in an area east of the Town Hall called Salisbury Road.
Unbeknownst to us it is the center or should I say artery of one of the main student quarters in the town. Everything was Take Away / delivery by one of them any firms and extraordinarily good value for money. We ended up in a Korean vegetarian restaurant and a very nice lunch.
There are many coffee bars and graffiti has been developed to a fine art as the picture shows above
This is a very unusual sign for a Halloween event. It may be the Welsh have a different sense of humour and sense of the occasion to us Brits- who knows – but it’s certainly caught my attention
Yes I can truly say that this is an extraordinary large chicken burger. I don’t know what to make of the expression of the person who’s going to get into it. It’s almost like you need detachable jaws like the average boa constrictor in order to even entertain the idea of eating it.
There is no doubt that Cardiff is a very cosmopolitan City. The average age is about 34 and I’m sure this reduces during the times when the many hundreds of students are in residence. I did my usual thing of chatting to everyone and we met three groups of French people. One who spoke excellent French was in fact Moroccan and she had two friends from Paris so I teased her a bit about being a fake French person and she took it in good heart
We took a bus to the bay area, rested for a while and then went to Wetherspoons. As it was 5:30 I didn’t expect it to be so crowded but, sure enough, crowds were there in abundance and we enjoyed fish and chips and a glass of wine each. On our way back we popped by a late night shoe shop and bought some shoes for Françoise
