A trip to a community cafe and meeting place in Shepton Mallet

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Off to buy some goldfish in Dobbes which is a large gardens superstore near Shepton Mallet. They stopped selling fish years ago so we went to an adjacent place and bought four goldfish for £20. This may sound a lot for four very small examples but they have had to be kept fed and looked after through their growth. So I recon that’s a pretty good deal.

This was one of the hottest days of the year so it was a relief to take refuge in Aldi where the cooling system was so efficient that I got pimples on my arms. I did not go in there to actually buy something.

We decided to go to the community cafe (The Art Bank) in the High Street where all sorts of things go on. Here are two or three images to show you the sort of place it is including a list of events that’s going to happen. I think it’s a lovely idea

We then visited a pub that served food a. I had forgotten how pleasant to can be to sit in a large well-maintained garden watching the clouds scudding across the sky and enjoying a few intimate moments. Everyone got the same idea so those who ordered food were in for quite a weights but when it arrived it was worth it.

If I was running a pub/restaurant I would find it very difficult to plan ahead and decide how many staff to have because if the weather is bad you don’t get anybody and if the weather is good you get too many people so the tables cannot be cleared promptly and people have to wait a long time for their orders.

I tend to be grateful that the pub is there at all so I’m quite willing to wait. After all, we don’t have a train to catch.
